Essential Oil Ideas for Kid's Crafts
Kids get bored sometimes, especially while it is too hot or raining outside. Its fun to get them involved in making something creative!
Cloud Dough is a great distraction!
In a glass bowl mix:
½ cup oil (Vegetable oil or fractionated coconut oil)
5 drops essential oil
6 drops of food dye
Mix together before adding:
4 cups of flour
Mix again using a spoon or your hands. Store your dough in and airtight container. Its good for a week.
Finger painting is always fun, especially for younger children.
Try mixing 1 heaping Tablespoon cornstarch with 2 cups of cold water. Whisk in a pan over medium heat until it begins to thicken.
Remove from heat and when it’s cooled pour the blend into small jars or bottles. Add food dye to each container as well as a drop of essential oil. To make it extra fun add orange oil to the orange paint, peppermint to the green, grapefruit to the pink, lemon to the yellow, etc.
Homemade Playtime Dough
In a medium pot mix:
1 cup four
¼ cup salt
2 Tablespoons cream of tarter
1 Tablespoon oil
1 cup water
Combine all the listed ingredients in a mid-sized pot and stir well. Continue stirring over mid to low heat until it thickens and no longer sticks to the sides of the pot. It will take about 5 minutes. Plop dough on to the counter, cookie sheet or cutting board and let cool for a few minutes. When cool enough to handle you can divide into pieces or leave as a whole and knead in food dye and a few drops of essential oils.
Divide dough and kneed in various essential oils and food coloring. 😊
Some good essential oils to choose from are:
Peppermint and Spearmint
Pine and Birch (they smell like root beer)
Spruce and Fir
Lavender and Chamomile
Citrus Oils like Orange, Grapefruit, Lemon and Lime
Be creative and have fun!!!
